Gone Girl - Investigator 1

  • The author wanted the story to be relatable in terms of a failing long-term relationship.
  • In relation to this, the relationships "power plays" and "dynamics" between husband and wife represent the conflicts people face in long-term relationships.
  •  The book also makes a point about class, with Amy being of "high-class" descent and Nick from "lower-class." This is meant to further show a conflict about differences.
  •  The author makes an effort to make her characters "unlikable in a dark-story setting."
  •  The book is structured from the point of views of two unreliable narrators (Nick and Amy) to evoke suspense and thinking.
